Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about the directory and how it works
For Taxpayers
How do I find the right tax resolution professional?
Use the search to filter by location and by the problem you are dealing with, like an Offer in Compromise or audit defense. Review a few profiles, compare credentials and client reviews, and consider speaking with two or three professionals before you decide.
What does verified mean?
Verified professionals have had their credentials confirmed by Tax Resolution Academy®. That covers license status, professional designations (CPA, EA, attorney), and any claimed certifications such as CTR™.
Is the consultation free?
Many professionals offer a free initial consultation. Check the individual profile for how that professional handles the first conversation.
What is the CTR™ certification?
The Certified Taxpayer Representative™ (CTR™) designation indicates the professional has completed advanced training through Tax Resolution Academy® and demonstrated expertise in IRS representation, including collections, offers in compromise, and tax controversy. It is not a government license and it is not issued by the IRS.
How do I know whether I need a tax resolution professional?
Professional help makes sense when you have unfiled tax returns, owe back taxes, received IRS notices such as a CP2000, CP501, or Letter 668, face wage garnishment or a bank levy, or need to negotiate a payment plan or settlement with the IRS.
Do these professionals work remotely?
Yes. Many professionals in the directory serve clients nationwide by phone, video, and secure document sharing, which the IRS permits for federal matters. Each profile shows the states that professional actually serves.
For Professionals
How do I get listed in the directory?
A listing is a benefit of Tax Resolution Academy® membership. There is no separate application and no additional cost. Sign in with the same email address you use in the member community, complete your profile, and submit it for review. Listings require active licensure as a CPA, Enrolled Agent, or attorney.
What are the membership tiers?
Academy membership runs across four tiers: Foundations, Champions, Titans, and Elite (the ESIC Mastermind level). Your tier is one of the factors used to order search results, after Certified Taxpayer Representative™ status and before proximity.
Can I earn the CTR™ designation?
Yes. The CTR™ certification program is available through Tax Resolution Academy®. Visit taxresolutionacademy.com for information about training and certification requirements.
How are reviews handled?
All reviews are moderated before publication to confirm authenticity and compliance with the review policy. Clients can only submit reviews after working with a professional.
